Established in 2002, Opus Energy is a leading supplier of gas and electricity to the UK business sector. It offers companies a competitive source of energy, coupled with exceptional levels of customer service.

Opus Energy launched its NVQ Apprenticeship Scheme in February 2012 with support and guidance from First4Skills. The aim of the scheme is to help grow talent and source applicants who have potential, but do not necessarily have relevant experience. Applications were sought from people with a genuine interest in working in the energy sector, a true passion for excellent customer service and an ambition to learn and develop within Opus Energy.

Annamarie Petsis Jones, Head of HR, Learning and Development at Opus Energy commented: “We chose to work with First4Skills because they had a national presence and were able to guarantee that their assessors would regularly give a high-level level of support to our apprentices, which they have. Furthermore, the apprentices’ line managers are able to track the apprentices’ progress online which allows them to provide the necessary support when required.”

First4Skills tailored each NVQ Diploma to suit Opus Energy’s specific recruitment requirements across two key functions of the business: Customer Service and Business Administration.
Following the success of the initial cohort of four apprentices, Opus Energy has since taken on additional apprentices and more are planned over the coming months.

Annamarie Petsis Jones continues: “We’ve found that the Apprenticeship Scheme is a great way to grow our team and find new, enthusiastic staff who can help us offer an exceptional service to our customers. The apprentices are getting on amazingly well and it is wonderful to see them all developing.”
